Glad to find this group! Here are my details...
how many kids do you have?: 1 out and 1 in
how old are your kids?: Zoe is 3 years old and we're 4 months pregnant with Chompers (nicknamed after my insane hunger I seem to have with this pregnancy)
what is your fav. local spot to take your kids: Frear park - we can walk there from our house and she enjoys the playground.
whats your fav. thing about living in albany with kids: Four seasons. My husband and I grew-up in Florida, and our daughter was born in Seattle. This is our third year up here in the Albany area.
what do you wish was different about living in the area with kids?: A haircut shop just for kids, a good pediatrician like we had in Seattle, and my family living nearby.

Question for all you who have dealt with grown dogs and small children...
We adopted a 2 year old shepard mix dog (medium sized) this week and are having some problems with her and our 4 year old daughter. Now the dog (Kirra) is generally well behaved, not agressive, doesn't jump, isn't a barker etc... but she seems to get jealous when my little daughter is on my lap, cuddling or in my arms. She will also yap at her (almost as if she's 'herding' her) when she's upset or gets to running through the house (which is how my daughter travels...she rarely walks, lol!)
I'm worried that the dog might be trying to set herself up in the family hierarchy as above my daughter and that it could, on some level, be dangerous. We, of course, don't leave the dog in a room with either child unsupervised (my ten year old daughter is having no problems at all with the dog)but we don't know her well yet as she was adopted from a shelter and had been a stray (she came to the shelter housebroken and knowing some basic commands such as 'sit' and 'heel' already, though, so she's been in a home before... she also knows that beds aren't for dogs, though she wants up anyway and sits when she sees her leash so it can be attatched to her collar.)
Any advice, warning signs, anecdotes about your experiance, tips etc... would be more than welcome here :) We're very fond of Kirra and want to do everything in our power to make our family mesh... she's even getting on ok with the cat, lol! (we will be attending obediance school together soon as well.)

just wanted to let you all know i was looking into like toddler/preschool classes to take my almost 3 year old too. and the first place i looked into was tumbling tykes, i had heard realy good things about it. so i called, talked it over with them found out what they have to offer and stuff, it looks okay, they start off by having like a circle time and singing, and then they do a parachute thing, make a craft, have a story, ect ect. a little bit of everything ya know, a little dramtic play, a little gross motor, a little fine motor, ect ect...2 classes a week for 8 weeks and its 129 bucks. i talk to my mom (who is gifting maggie with this) and the times she can go my mom has to take her to one because i have class.....so i look up online and i find anouther place
"kids fitness" its that big medical builing in lathem "community care" or something like it. anyway, they rent the office space fo its not part of the commuity care, they too offer classes to child, same age range, sounds like the same deal, only her class their runs a little older ( ends at 3.5 not 3) which i think is good. so for 8 weeks there guess how much. 75 bucks!!!! AND if you have blue sheild, comm. blue, or any of those its covered!
tumbling tykes might be "cuter" but this place seems like the better choice. so long as i can get jeff to take her ( because all times are when i am either at work or at school)
also tumbling tykes the parents have to do everything with the kid, this place the kids can be on his own but the parent has to direct the child and maybe step in when needed.making it more of the preschool readyness i was looking for. YAY!
